Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions we receive at Solutions for the Workplace.
How much does it cost?
I price my services individually, based on client requirements (is it a full resume? An update? Are you a returning client? What level are you targeting? Federal or private sector? Are you looking for more than one service—such as a LinkedIn Profile—too?
During your free discovery call or email inquiry, we’ll determine which package best fits your needs and career goals.
What’s your process?
I start every project with a one-on-one strategy session (via email or phone) to learn about your career goals, achievements, and target positions. From there, I create a draft resume within 5 to 10 business days, depending on complexity, workload, and when I receive any additional information needed, followed by one round of revisions to ensure you’re satisfied with the result.
How long will it take to complete my resume?
Most projects take 7-10 business days from our strategy session to the delivery of your final documents. If you have an urgent deadline, that can often be accommodated.
Note: Your turnaround time may vary depending on how quickly you provide the requested information.
Do you offer any additional services?
Yes! In addition to resume writing, I offer LinkedIn profile development, cover letter templates, and career coaching and salary negotiation packages. Many clients choose my “Career Branding Bundle,” which includes all these services together for the most impact in your job search!
How will you tailor my resume for specific jobs or industries?
Over the past 20 years, I’ve written resumes for clients from “A to Z” — accountants to a zookeeper! I also work with career changers from a wide variety of fields. Even if I haven’t written for your exact role before, I use proven resume writing strategies that highlight your transferable skills and achievements.
Can you help me if I’m changing careers or re-entering the workforce after a break?
Absolutely! I frequently work with clients who are changing careers. I focus on identifying transferable skills, volunteer experience, and accomplishments that show your value — even if your past job titles don’t perfectly match your next goal.
How do you stay updated on current resume trends?
I’m a member of Career Thought Leaders (CTL), The Professional Association of Resume Writers (PARW), and Career Directors International (CDI), and I regularly attend professional development training to stay current on resume writing, job search trends, and applicant tracking systems.
I also hold multiple professional credentials, write a regular career column for FEDweek.com, have published 3 resume writing / career books, designed and facilitated the CTL certification program for federal resume writers, and am a frequent speaker at professional conferences.
Can I get a generic resume that covers everything?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to create an effective “generic” resume that will be truly effective in helping you land your dream job. A resume that is not tailored towards a specific type of position is a “career obituary” and tells the story of the past — not the potential you have to offer to a prospective employer and how your specific experience, education, and skills can benefit the company or organization. And a one size fits all resume is unlikely to include all of the necessary key words from individual postings.
It is important for you to identify a specific job title that you are pursuing, and even more helpful to collect 3-5 job postings for this type of position, even if these job postings are no longer active and even if you do not wish to apply to this specific company. Being able to incorporate relevant keywords while describing current and past work experience is one way to demonstrate value to a prospective employer. An analysis of relevant job postings helps make this possible.
Do you use AI?
Many of you have asked about whether I will use AI to write your resume. The short answer is “no.” While AI can certainly generate content, that content is not usually personalized and often inaccurate. While AI has a place as a starting point for research or help in communicating a particular concept, it does not and cannot replace a professional resume writer.
I am committed to transparency in how I work, including my approach to artificial intelligence and the ethical use of it. AI is not used to write, draft, or compose client documents. The written work I deliver is my own. I may, occasionally use AI tools to support research, organization, or background tasks where appropriate. Any such use adheres to strict ethical and security standards: results are always critically reviewed, independently verified, and held to the same standard of accuracy and quality I apply to all my work. I apply my professional expertise and writing judgment to craft your career documents. At the same time, each document is shaped by your experiences to ensure it genuinely reflects who you are.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Because every job search is unique, I can’t guarantee specific employment outcomes. However, I do guarantee that I’ll work with you until you are satisfied with your resume. Each project includes one round of revisions to ensure you’re happy with your new documents.
